Meissen porcelain - Saxony, circa 1763-75.

Spring H: 6 1/4 in; L: 18 in
Summer H: 5 1/2 in; L: 7 1/4 in
Winter H: 6 1/2 in; L: 7 1/2 in

Marks:
Two crossed blue swords, marks of the Meissen porcelain factory, painted on the three groups;
The letters C.H.C. engraved on two groups.

Fine set of three Meissen porcelain groups of children representing the Seasons.

Spring is symbolised by four children gathering flowers.

Summer is represented by children with sheaves of wheat (opposite).

Winter is represented by four children getting warm by the fire and muffling oneself up in a coat.

This kind of theme, inspired by daily life, was introduced in the production of the Meissen porcelain factory during the second half of the XVIIIth century, and turned out to be a great success.
